To Our Community: An Update on the LA Fires

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support in response to the recent fires across Los Angeles County. It’s a reminder of the support we have from our partners, our donors, and our community. While the worst is over, as of this morning, many youth, staff, and regional board members remain evacuated or displaced. We want to provide an update on how First Place for Youth is responding to this crisis and supporting our young people and staff.

Impact on Our Youth and Programs

Our LA County programs serve over 230 young people, many of whom have been affected by the fires. We’ve taken immediate action to ensure their safety and well-being:

  • Relocated youth from the Pasadena and Santa Monica areas to temporary housing
  • Provided essential supplies, including food and water
  • Offered ongoing support to help them navigate this challenging situation

Staff Support and Challenges

Our dedicated staff members are also facing significant challenges as they work tirelessly to support our youth while managing their own circumstances during this crisis. Their commitment to our mission remains unwavering, despite the physical and emotional toll of the wildfires.

Long-Term Considerations

We are actively assessing and preparing for the potential long-term effects of these wildfires on our programs and the young people we serve. Some concerns include:

  • Increased housing costs in an already stretched rental market
  • Potential job losses and economic impacts affecting our youth’s path to independence
  • Additional support needed for those graduating from our program in this challenging environment

Our Commitment

Rest assured, we are doing everything in our power to ensure our youth feel safe, supported, and well-cared for during this stressful time. We are working tirelessly to provide not only immediate assistance but also long-term support as our community begins to recover and rebuild.

We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support and concern that we’ve received from our First Place community. Your continued partnership enables us to respond effectively to crises like these and maintain our commitment to helping young people achieve independence and success.

Thank you for standing with First Place for Youth during this difficult time and we will continue to share updates as the situation evolves.
