Dan Kostenbauder moved to California in 1980 after growing up, attending college and law school, and working for a few years on the East Coast.
Dan has served on the boards of several non-profit organizations, most notably as a Trustee of Palo Alto University for many years, including two separate periods as Chair of the Board of Trustees. Dan served on the Board of Gifts-in-Kind International, and was Chair of the Board of Directors for three years. He has also been Treasurer and a Board member of the Yale Club of Silicon Valley since 1993.
As of January 2026, Dan is the Vice President Tax Policy and General Counsel for the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, based in San Jose, California. Prior to joining SVLG, Dan retired as Vice President, Tax Policy for Hewlett-Packard Company in 2014 after a 34-year career in the HP Tax Department.
