First Place For Youth
Jun 16, 2025
Loneliness is increasingly recognized as a public health challenge, especially for young people navigating major life transitions. But at First Place for Youth, we see transition-age foster youth not as isolated or at-risk, but as resilient, resourceful, and ready to build vibrant futures. Our mission is to create not just housing or services, but true communities of belonging—places where young people’s strengths are celebrated, and their connections flourish.
My First Place: Community by Design
Transition-age foster youth have often faced more change by age 21 than many experience in a lifetime. Yet, in every move and new beginning, they develop adaptability, empathy, and a remarkable capacity for connection. At First Place, we honor and amplify these strengths, providing the scaffolding for youth to thrive—together.
Our My First Place™ program is intentionally structured to foster connection and mutual support. Each two-bedroom apartment is shared by two youth, creating a built-in peer community where friendships and support networks can grow. This living arrangement is more than practical—it’s a daily reminder that no one has to walk their journey alone.
Every participant is backed by a dedicated team:
This wraparound support celebrates each youth’s individuality while nurturing their sense of belonging.
Summer Bridge: Experiences That Build Confidence and Connection
Summer can be a time of uncertainty for many young people, but our Summer Bridge Program transforms it into a season of growth and community. This year’s activities included:
These experiences are about more than fun—they’re about discovering strengths, building networks, and celebrating every step forward.
Year-Round Enrichment: Celebrating Achievements and Shared Joy
Connection doesn’t end with summer. Throughout the year, First Place offers a vibrant calendar of enrichment activities designed to deepen relationships, celebrate successes, and create joyful memories. These events are more than just social gatherings—they are intentional opportunities for youth to build community, develop new skills, and feel a sense of belonging.
Each of these enrichment activities is thoughtfully designed to help youth form lasting friendships, celebrate their unique journeys, and experience the joy of belonging to a supportive community.
A Community of Possibility
At First Place for Youth, we believe every young person has the power to transform challenges into opportunities. Our staff are more than service providers—they are mentors, connectors, and advocates. Trained in trauma-informed care and cultural humility, our team is intentional about naming loneliness, checking in, asking questions, and normalizing open dialogue about mental health and belonging. By fostering trust and ensuring every young person feels seen and valued, we help youth turn loneliness into belonging and isolation into community.
By focusing on strengths, celebrating achievements, and fostering authentic relationships, we are building a future where every young person is supported and celebrated for who they are and all they can become.
