First Place for Youth

Ending homelessness requires understanding of homelessness.
Each January, volunteers in communities across the U.S. conduct a “homeless census” called a Point-In-Time Count that takes a count of people using shelter services as well as those who are sleeping unsheltered. The PIT count allows a community to understand not only how many people are without homes, but also who they are demographically (e.g., individuals, families, youth, veterans, seniors, etc) and the services they receive and/or need. The data collected through the PIT Count also helps to determine federal funding for local homelessness services.
This year’s PIT Counts are rapidly approaching, and volunteers are still needed. First Place encourages our supporters to get involved.
