OUR STORY
Since 2010, First Place for Youth has helped thousands of young people in Los Angeles County make the transition from foster care to self-sufficient adult lives.
Each year, through our My First Place™ program, we offer about 210 young people safe places to call home, comprehensive wraparound services, and education and career supports to help them step into independence with confidence, equipped with the skills to succeed. Nearly all young adults served are Black, Indigenous, or people of color and one out of five have children of their own.
Our mission is to help foster youth build the skills they need to make a successful transition to self-sufficiency and responsible adulthood. We provide safe, stable housing, paired with intensive case management to build crucial life-skills and emotional wellbeing. Our individualized education and employment counseling are the core of our program, ensuring that young people have a clear path to succeed in school and build job readiness skills qualifying them for living-wage positions.
In addition to our office locations, First Place oversees single-site housing locations in Santa Monica, Silver Lake, and Compton, where youth in residence have access to on-site support from First Place staff.
