First Place For Youth

This month, our incredible partners at Art + Practice (A+P) hosted an inspiring Roundtable Discussion exclusively for First Place for Youth participants. These intimate gatherings provide young people with the opportunity to connect with and learn from successful individuals who have faced similar challenges, fostering meaningful conversations about resilience, identity, and personal growth.
During this session, speakers Adekunle Rufaia and Kaylyn Wright led an engaging and honest discussion on overcoming obstacles, developing a strong sense of self, and stepping into one’s full potential. Their stories and insights equipped our young people with valuable tools for navigating mental health challenges and embracing their personal journeys of growth.
Our collaboration with A+P is rooted in a shared mission: empowering transition-age foster youth with the resources, skills, and support they need to thrive. Based in the South Los Angeles neighborhood of Leimert Park, A+P has helped to deepen the work of First Place by creating engaging opportunities for our young people through roundtable discussions, an apprenticeship program, and A+P’s scholarship fund.
We are grateful for Art + Practice’sunwavering commitment to youth empowerment and community-building. Their work continues to create opportunities for older foster youth to grow, and we are proud to stand alongside them to make more possible. Thank you, A+P!
